Scholarships

Apply now for 2025 scholarship 

Applications must be postmarked on or before March 2, 2025 

 

To qualify for the $500.00 Scholarship: 

  • Applicants applying must be a graduating high school senior in the 2024-2025 school year.

  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen living in a home currently served by Southwest Iowa REC. Parents or guardians of minors must be a member of Southwest Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative. 

  • Applicant must have completed three and one-half years, or the equivalent in hourly credits, of high school at the time the application is submitted. 

  • The applicant must enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited college, university or vocation/technical school.* 

  • Applicant must furnish a transcript showing three and one-half years of high school grades, or the equivalent in hourly credits. All transcripts will be retained by the Scholarship Committee whether or not the applicant is granted a scholarship. 

  • Application must be completed in full and filed with the Southwest Iowa REC Scholarship Committee. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. 

  • Scholarship checks will be made jointly payable to the students and to the financial office of the educational institution to be endorsed by both parties. The scholarship must be used for educational costs. Checks will be issued at the beginning of the second semester after second-semester enrollment verification by the school registrar is received by Southwest Iowa REC. 

To qualify for the $1,000.00 Lineman or other electrical trades scholarship: 

  • Applicants applying can be a high school senior or a non-traditional student.

  • Applicant must be a U.S. citizen. 

  • Applicant must have completed three and one-half years, or the equivalent in hourly credits, of high school at the time the application is submitted. 

  • The applicant must enroll in a full-time accredited Lineman school or any other electrical trades program.* 

  • Applicant must furnish a transcript showing three and one-half years of high school grades, or the equivalent in hourly credits. All transcripts will be retained by the Scholarship Committee whether or not the applicant is granted a scholarship. 

  • Application must be completed in full and filed with the Southwest Iowa REC Scholarship Committee. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
