The Energy Adjustment Charge (EAC) is a way to adjust the fluctuating monthly cost of wholesale power over or under the established kWh rate.
When Southwest Iowa REC receives its monthly power bill from its power provider, Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO), that increase or decrease in power cost from the base kWh rate is passed on to the member-consumer through the EAC.
Technically, the EAC is not a rate increase, but it has the same results. However, when the cost of power decreases that savings is passed on to the member-consumer as well. Southwest Iowa REC is committed to keeping rates as stable as possible while maintaining financial obligations.
